Texas election results: State Senate District 9 heading to a runoff

State Senate District 9 race headed to runoff after split vote

The race to fill a vacant North Texas state Senate seat is heading to a runoff.

Democrat Taylor Rehmet was the top vote-getter in Tuesday's special election for Senate District 9, finishing with 47.6%. Since he did not win a majority, the Rehmet will face off with second-place finisher Republican Leigh Wambsganss, who received 36% of the vote.

Gov. Greg Abbott will need to set a date for the runoff election.
