NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Public colleges and universities across the state of Texas are preparing for the Campus Carry Law that takes effect August 1.

Texas state law requires all public universities to allow licensed concealed handguns owners in the classroom, but does give some leeway to schools, allowing for gun-free zones.

The law only applies to public colleges and universities. Private institutions can opt out of the Campus Carry Law, and most in Texas already have.
