Teen From Dallas Drowns In Grapevine Lake

GRAPEVINE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - Dive team rescuers from the Grapevine and Flower Mound Fire Departments recovered a 17-year-old Dallas boy who had been missing in Grapevine Lake for about an hour Thursday afternoon.

A short time later the Grapevine Fire Department confirmed he drowned.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Alberto Santos.

The teen was out on the lake swimming with his family and some friends at Rockledge Park on the east side of the lake when he disappeared.

They were in the cove when someone started to shout for help saying teen had disappeared under the water. 

First responders were performing CPR on the young man on the way to the hospital, but he did not survive.

A short time later, the Grapevine Fire Department tweeted, "The Holiday weekend is just getting started and crews have already worked a traumatic injury and drowning on Grapevine Lake. Please be safe and by all means wear a life jacket."

Shortly after 6:00 p.m., the city of Grapevine tweeted Rockledge Park was closed for the day.

Santos' death marks the second drowning at Rockledge Park since Memorial Day weekend in a lake that averages around four drownings a year.

With summer far from over, the city is asking people visiting the lake to be safe and wear a life jacket.
