NORTH TEXAS (CBS11) - Momentum and excitement are building for Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

Just ask Molly Maddux, who traveled from Euless to Iowa. "I can't tell you how excited I am. My daughter always says I don't show a lot of emotion, but it's all inside of me, it doesn't show. I'm ecstatic."

Cruz must now broaden his coalition in New Hampshire, where independents outnumber Republicans.

"We're seeing conservatives and even evangelicals and libertarians and Reagan Democrats all coming together as one and that terrifies Washington, DC."

Cruz's campaign is fueled by 200,000 eager volunteers nationwide like Maddux. "I got off a cruise at midnight Tuesday night and I got on a plane at 5:30 Wednesday morning, so I said I'm cruising in the Caribbean and now, I'm cruising for Ted."

The New Hampshire Primary is next Tuesday.

While Cruz was there Tuesday morning and early Tuesday afternoon, he then flew to Greenville, South Carolina where he held a rally in the evening.

That state's primary is February 20th.

Strategies for the Top Three in GOP

Senator Cruz not only wants to continue attracting grassroots conservatives, but also libertarian-leaning Republicans.

As for billionaire Donald Trump, he maintains a 22-point lead in New Hampshire over Cruz who's in second place.

He needs to hold onto that lead and convince voters that Iowa was a fluke.

With his new momentum, Florida Senator Marco Rubio has to consolidate support from moderates and the establishment, and keep Ohio Governor John Kasich, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie from surging.
