DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Rail service in downtown Dallas experienced big delays after Dallas Area Rapid Transit reported a problem with one of their trains. The situation unfolded shortly after 5:00 a.m. on Monday morning and did not get resolved until after noon.
A train operator first noticed the issue when their train slowly came to a stop. As it turns out, a connecting piece on top of the vehicle somehow became tangled with the overhead cable.
Workers made repairs to the train, but delays lasted for around seven hours.
The delays impacted about 30,000 people who normally ride the DART rail trains in and out of downtown on weekday mornings. Shuttle buses were brought in to carry any commuters in and out of downtown Dallas while the repairs were being made.
That was not the only issue for DART on Monday. The Dallas Streetcar, which is a new route for riders between the Oak Cliff area and Union Station, was also out of service due to a mechanical problem. Once again, a shuttle bus was used to carry travelers, but repairs to that problem have been fixed and the route is now operating as scheduled.
