Suspect In Detective Murder Says He's Not A 'Bad Guy'

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A man charged with capital murder in the slaying of a San Antonio police officer says he's not a "bad guy" and has had trouble since losing his identification in 2006.
Otis McKane, in jailhouse interviews Monday, declined to discuss the Nov. 20 shooting of Detective Benjamin Marconi.
McKane has said he was angry over an unrelated child-custody battle.
The 31-year-old McKane told KENS-TV that he's not a "bad guy" and his character has been demonized.
McKane told the San Antonio Express-News that he grew up in a violent, impoverished neighborhood. McKane said in 2006 he paid traffic fines over use of his ID. He told KSAT-TV someone impersonated him.
McKane says he spent a week jailed in 2007 and doesn't know why.
He was convicted of assault in 2012.
