DALLAS, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - More than 800-students this morning return to classes at Lakewood Elementary School in Dallas, after a carbon monoxide (CO) leak forced an evacuation Tuesday.
School officials say a detector has been installed in the area where the highest levels of CO were detected, and a leaking boiler repaired.
Some Lakewood parents went to the DISD administration Thursday demanding that CO detectors be installed. Parents even offered to buy the devices.
Lakewood Elementary PTA President Shannon West says the issue is just one of many problems at the school.
"We have had overcrowding issues, we have bathroom issues, [and] we have points of entry issues. I just can't express enough how we need this school fixed!" said West.
The school's principal invited parents to a meeting at the school at 8:10 this morning, just before kids return to class.
