Student Loan Threat Hoax Gets Man Jailed

DALLAS (AP) - An Ohio man delinquent on paying his student loans has been sentenced to three years in prison for mailing a hoax white powder threatening letter to Texas.
Michael M. Murray of Columbus, Ohio, was sentenced Wednesday in Dallas.
Murray in April was convicted of making threats and hoaxes over his 2008 letter to a federal student loan processing center in Greenville.
Murray had received a letter demanding repayment, tore off the part with his name and address, wrote obscenities and put it in a self-addressed return envelope. Prosecutors say Murray wrote "Osama Bin Laden" as the sender, added white powder and mailed it.
DNA evidence on the envelope matched Murray, who was indicted in 2011 and arrested last year in Los Angeles.
Prosecutors didn't immediately provide details on the loans.
