ARLINGTON (KRLD) - A student was arrested for bringing a loaded gun inside his backpack to an Arlington high school.

Arlington Police said the student was arrested after another student heard about the gun on the Sam Houston High School campus and told staff.

Leslie Johnston with the district said the student was quickly apprehended. Johnson also said no threat was made, but additional security will be added to the campus. The school will conduct random metal detector checks and will continue to do so. But some parents aren't satisfied with the way the school handled the situation.

"I'm kind of upset because they're supposed to let every parent know what's happening around your school," parent Heriberto Lopez said.

Police have not said how old the student involved is. He was taken to a juvenile detention center.

The principal of Sam Houston High is inviting parents to meet with him Friday at the school at 8 a.m. to talk about the gun at school incident.
