Stephen Jones Discusses McClain's Future With Cowboys

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- It's obvious the impact that linebacker Rolando McClain is having on the Cowboys defense this season. But it's intriguing to think what his future might hold.

McClain exited the game in the 4th quarter on Sunday with Dallas leading 17-10. The Texans needed just four plays to go 55 yards to force overtime.

The linebacker was sorely missed in overtime as well, as Houston's Arian Foster opened with a 24-yard rush through the heart of the Dallas defense.

"I certainly noticed it, and I think his teammates are the first to say they noticed it," said Stephen Jones with the G-Bag Nation on Monday, noting how the defense changes with McClain on the sideline. "He's a top 10 pick in the draft. I think we're seeing around here why he was."

Jones says the team is hoping that McClain is just experiencing fatigue in his groin. Without him, there's certainly a void in the defense.

McClain had collected six tackles in helping limit the Texans' offense to just 10 points through the game's first 56 minutes.

"When he hits you, you go down. He's got range. There was a hole there when he left the game."

As he's consistently said with DeMarco Murray, Jones says the Cowboys would be open to keeping McClain in Dallas when his contract expires this offseason.

"I certainly see a situation where we're going to be trying to sign him to a long term contract and keep him here with the Dallas Cowboys. He's certainly made a difference. He goes about his business the way we like to see them go about there business."

And how would he fit with linebacker Sean Lee, who presumably will return to the Cowboys starting lineup next season?

"He'd be a great compliment in there with Sean Lee in terms of how Sean plays the game. It may be a situation where if he were at Mike, and Sean moved over and played some Will for us, it may help Sean in terms of the wear and tear on his body. We're more focused on what's going on here and now, but he falls into that same category as DeMarco. He's somebody we'd like to keep around here."
