PLANO (CBSDFW.COM/KRLD) - There is an effort underway to make a Plano swimming pool a state historical landmark. It's called the Texas Pool and has been open since 1960.

Located near the intersection of Highway 75 and George Bush in Plano, the board of directors think it's the oldest state-shaped pool in Texas.

Janet Moos, CEO of the Texas Pool Foundation, says it' they're trying to reclaim a place in the public's mind by campaigning for historical designation.

Moos says the state landmark status would bring the pool needed funds for upkeep and bring back a renewed sense of community like in the old days.

Moos and the pool's historian are working to put together the pool's historic background before going forward to the Texas Historical Commission.
