DALLAS (CBS11 SPORTS) - At age 21, Jordan Spieth has already accomplished more than most golfers ever will.

There is still one goal he has yet to achieve.

With at least a top 7 finish this week at the John Deere Classic and a victory at the British Open, Spieth would move past a dormant Rory McIlroy as the top ranked golfer in the world.

That seems like a tall task, but keep in mind Spieth leads the PGA Tour in wins (3), money earned, and points this season.

With McIlroy having suffered a ruptured ligament in his ankle (playing soccer), his chance to defend his title at the British Open is very much in jeopardy. Can McIlroy's loss be Spieth's gain? With two great weeks starting this Thursday at the first pro tournament he ever won (John Deere Classic), absolutely!!!

Next week at the British Open, Spieth will try to move one step closer to becoming just the second golfer to ever win all four major tournaments in the same season.

Chances are he would say that is his number one goal. However, a chance for the Dallas native to be number one in the world would be, in some ways, the culmination of his hard work and immense talent. Hopefully, we in the DFW, get a chance to bear witness to another testament of his greatness.
