Southern Illinois' Shooting Overwhelms North Texas 95-63

DENTON (AP) — Anthony Beane scored 27 points and Mike Rodriguez added 12 points as Southern Illinois defeated North Texas 95-63 on Saturday.

Beane was 11 of 14 from the field for Southern Illinois (8-1), which is off to its best start since 2006, while the Mean Green have now lost six in a row and are still in search of a win against a Division I opponent.

The Salukis started 2006 at 7-1 and were 8-1 in 2001. The game was the first matchup between the two teams since Dec. 13, 1975. The two teams meet again next Saturday in Carbondale, Ill.

North Texas (2-6) had one lead at 2-0, which lasted just 50 seconds.

Leading 40-23 at the half, Leo Vincent's layup with 13 minutes left made the score 61-38. The Salukis shot 68 percent from the field, going 36 for 53.

J-Mychal Reese had 10 points for North Texas.
