1 Soldier Killed In Iraq Artillery 'Mishap' Sunday Was From Arlington
WASHINGTON (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - The Department of Defense announced Monday the deaths of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.
Spc. Allen Levi Stigler Jr., 22, of Arlington, Texas and Sgt. Roshain Euvince Brooks, 30, of Brooklyn, New York.
They died Sunday, August 13 of wounds sustained while engaged in combat operations in Iraq, a DOD news release stated.
Both soldiers were canon crew members assigned to 2nd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
A Pentagon spokesman says the two U.S. soldiers were casualties of a U.S. artillery "mishap."
Allen Stigler Sr., the Arlington soldier's father told CBS11 Monday night, "I want to know. Was my son conscious, when this happened, when this explosion happened. Did he say get my pops on the phone. What ever, at that time. I just want to know what happened."
This was Stigler's first deployment. He was scheduled to come home in October. He graduated from Timberview High School in 2013.
Five others suffered injuries that Manning says are not life-threatening.
