DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas police say officers were forced to fire at two dogs after an Oak Cliff man was attacked by pit bulls.
It happened earlier this morning when the man says he was bitten on the hand by the dogs.
David Smith with police says when officers came to the area, they quickly encountered the dogs and tried to keep them from attacking them with a large stick. It didn't work.
"Both officers had to draw their service weapons and each fired one shot at the dogs as they tried to bite the officers. Both dogs then fled back to the house they came from," says Smith.

One of the dogs was hit in the ear and both were eventually captured by animal control.
Charlotte Monroe, who lives in the area, says the dogs get loose often and are a danger to anyone outside.
"They got loose again and starting chasing other people. A man across the street had to jump inside his car," says Monroe.
She says the problem has persisted for some time.
"All the houses across the street are full of pit bulls. They do get out and they will kill you. I saw them rip another dog up down the street and almost killed it."
No word on if the owners will face charges.
The man bitten is being tested for rabies, but is expected to be ok.
