Sex Assault Victim Awarded $21 Million From Pizzeria Owner

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Four years after an 18-year-old young woman was sexually assaulted by the owner of a popular Addison pizzeria, she has been awarded more than $20 million dollars in a civil suit.

The assault happened in 2011, as the unidentified woman was interviewing for a job at Pastazios Pizza.  Her attorneys provided evidence that the co-defendant Ajredin "Danny" Deari served her several rounds of alcohol until she passed out.  When she woke up, she found herself in a hotel room where she was being sexually assaulted by Deari, according to her attorneys.  Later, it was determined that Deari infected the teen with herpes during the assault.

Judge Carl Ginsberg awarded the woman $21.43 million after hearing the evidence during a four-day trial in Dallas.

"The judge called this the most offensive set of facts he had ever seen during his time on the bench," said the woman's attorney, Trey Crawford of Gruber Hurst Elrod Johansen Hail Shank.

Deari filed for personal and business bankruptcy protection a day after pleading no contest to criminal charges.  His pizzeria continues to operate under Chapter 11 status.  Last year, he paid a $2,000 fine and was released.  He was not sentenced to jail time for this crime.
