Semi Hauling Frozen Chicken Breasts Crashes On Interstate-20 In Arlington

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Several lanes of Interstate-20 in Arlington were shutdown for more than nine hours after a semi tractor-trailer hauling poultry crashed early Tuesday morning.

It was just after 3:30 a.m. when the 18-wheeler, loaded with frozen chicken breasts, jackknifed in the westbound lanes of the interstate -- near Collins Street.

The impact of the wreck split the trailer open and spilled hundreds of boxes of chicken onto the roadway. By the lunch hour crews were still working to clean up the mess.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Arlington police are investigating whether or not the big rig driver fell asleep just before the accident. The man was taken to Medical City of Arlington with minor injuries.

The westbound lanes of the I-20 were reopened just after 1:00 p.m., but at it's peak up to three lanes of the freeway were closed, with traffic backed up for miles, and delays of more than an hour. Eastbound lanes of the highway were also clogged, though not as bad, because of onlookers.
