ROWLETT (CBS11) — Police enforced a curfew Sunday night for parts of Rowlett. Eighty homes are gone, and more than 300 houses have minor to major damage. Now those families are looking for a place to stay safe and warm.

Despite the hole in his roof, Solomon Macfoy knows how lucky he is.

"Never in my life thought this would happen to us. It was very, very terrifying. It was horrible," Macfoy said.

Macfoy and his family were home celebrating his daughter's 17th birthday when the tornado sent everyone into closets and bathrooms in search of shelter.

"I've never experienced anything like this in my life, and it's going to be a birthday I'll never forget," Whitney Macfoy said.

Twelve of her friends and family members huddled together.

"I was just praying to God that He protected our house and nothing bad happened, and thank God we're all alive," Whitney Macfoy said.

The Macfoys' home had considerably less damage than some of their neighbors. Many spent the day combing through debris to look for anything they could save.

As night fell again, most, like Ryan Malone, looked to lock up as best they could.

"We're all extremely lucky compared to some others, and hopefully everyone's doing well. That's all I can hope for," Malone said.

"Damages, that can always be fixed, but we were very grateful that everybody's alive," Solomon Macfoy added.

Rowlett Police said they did have a couple of reports of looting overnight, but Sunday night affected neighborhoods have officers from across the metroplex helping to keep watch while homeowners stay with loved ones.
