ROCKWALL (CBSDFW.COM) — Rockwall Police teams spent hours negotiating with a man who threatened to harm himself Friday.

Officers were sent to a house in the 1000 block of High Cotton Lane around 2 p.m. regarding a "welfare concern," police say. The man, who police labeled a "disturbed person" in the press release, had threatened on social media to harm himself.

After officers failed to establish contact with the man and tried for hours to verify his safety, the department's SWAT and Hostage Negotiation teams were sent in.

The teams negotiated with him for two hours before the man willingly left his house and "surrendered without incident or injury," police say. He was taken to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
