Richardson Teacher Creates Costume For Disabled Student

RICHARDSON (CBSDFW.COM) - Harrison Vaughan hasn't been able to walk since he was 8 years old.

He suffers from Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy, a condition that confines him to his wheelchair and affects about 1 in 3500 boys worldwide.

This year, Harrison is a senior at Berkner High School.  Even though he can't walk, he made quite an entrance at his school's Senior High pep rally and it was all thanks to one of his teachers.

Jeff Bishop created a seven foot Terminator 1 costume for Harrison that fit over his wheelchair.  Harrison debuted the costume during the pep rally to cheers from his classmates and teachers.

This isn't the first time Mr. Bishop has gone above and beyond to create a costume for Harrison.  Last year, he built a plane costume for the teenager.

"This has really helped (my son's) outlook and belief in himself that anything is possible," said Harrison's mother, Jeanette Vaughan.  "As a parent, I am touched to the core to have a teacher really go above and beyond to motivate a kid with empowerment and independence."
