EASTLAND (AP) – A retired Dallas Police officer and current Eastland County Sheriff's deputy died while driving his patrol vehicle to work.

72-year-old Kenneth Maltby was killed in a head-on collision on FM 570 near Eastland on Wednesday.

Investigators have determined that a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction swerved into the opposite lane to avoid hitting another vehicle but instead hit Deputy Maltby's patrol car. The other driver's injuries believed to be not life-threatening.

Eastland County Sheriff Wayne Bradford says Maltby, who joined the department in 2014, was on duty and driving to work when the wreck happened.

Fort Worth Police Officers Association stated, "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Eastland County Deputy Sheriff Kenneth Maltby."
