DALLAS (CBSDFW/1080 KRLD) - At one time they were the largest sports retailer in the country, now the Sports Authority is struggling financially, leading to the closing of several stores across Texas, and the US.

Sports Authority employees in stores across the Metroplex say they have been told the stores are closing.

Some of the employees say they expect the doors to be shut for good in May. Other employees in San Antonio and Houston say the same thing.

The corporate office in Englewood, Colorado is declining comment.

CBS in Denver reported Sports Authority closed two distribution centers and has cut of the staff. And the company recently missed a huge interest payment.

Sports Authority took a gamble several years ago, paying $60 million for the naming rights to the stadium that's home to the Superbowl Champion Denver Broncos.
