DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The American Red Cross is preparing to send trucks of volunteers and emergency supplies from Texas to south Louisiana to help flood victims there.

Multiple trucks from across Texas will leave from today with supplies from the Red Cross.

Red Cross spokesperson Anita Foster says even to longtime Red Cross volunteers...the situation is shocking.

"They volunteers have been through Hurricane Katrina and other large disasters around the nation" said Foster. "They're all saying it's as bad as anything we've ever seen."

Foster says the best way for anyone to help this recovery effort is to donate to the Red Cross online or through the text campaign for Louisiana.

With power out and and many phone systems down Foster says you can check the Red Cross website to look up loved ones if regular contact isn't working.
