Rain Chances Pick Up Again
A storm popped-up over Dallas yesterday afternoon producing strong winds and brief heavy rain. We again put in a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm across north Texas. The odds of you seeing rain at your house stay rather low however for the rest of the week before picking up on the weekend:
We have a strong upper-level low off the coast of California. It should move into the southern plains by Friday and help pull up moisture from the Gulf from a tropical wave:
The surface high over the east coast of Florida should intensify by early next week. This will return us to dry weather:
Rain chances this weekend are decent but better over the eastern counties:
The historical rains from May are still in our waterways and reservoirs. The flooding continues on the major conduits to the Gulf: the Trinity, Neches and Sabine rivers. These waterways are still in flood:
The lakes/reservoirs are still above pool stage for the most part, it takes awhile for the water to be moved downstream with the rivers so high. You can see how little they've changed over the last five days:
The latest drought information shows the 5-year drought across Texas has all but disappeared. This time last year going into the dry months of summer the state had 68% its counties in Moderate to Exceptional Drought. As of this week that number is down to a mere 1%:
With all the standing water still in along the river banks and lakes Mosquito counts are quickly rising. The Health Department in the City of Dallas sends their staff out to set mosquito traps and do population counts. The numbers show the uptick since the rains stopped and the heat arrived:
Here is your extended forecast. We have the weekend rain, it should drop those temperatures a little but the humidity will stay high:
