Potholes Continue To Cause Problems For North Texas Drivers

PLANO (CBS 11 NEWS) - First the ice, then the snow, now potholes are popping up everywhere. It was bad earlier this week. They're even worse with the latest round of snow.

The potholes are one thing, but what really worries some drivers is the prospect of other vehicles swerving at you to avoid them.

Workers spent the day pouring asphalt over holes in Plano, but those are nothing compared to the widespread damage seen across North Texas.

Jeff Green says he had to dodge potholes in Carrollton on his entire drive to get his wheel fixed. "It was just one pothole after another on [Interstate] 35. It's just all the way up 35. It's full of them."

Wheel specialists like Jose Servin, at Wheel Repair Solutions, say most of the cases they're seeing are dented rims that can be repaired relatively quickly. That could cost you about $150 compared to twice that to replace a wheel or even more to repair suspension problems that could develop if you continue to drive on a damaged rim.

"Especially right now, the way the roads are, I assure you there's plenty of people that have their wheels bent right now, and they don't even realize it," Servin said.

Plano workers say eventually road crews will have to pour concrete over the potholes for a permanent repair, but crews didn't want to leave the holes until then. Asphalt buys them about three weeks for a temporary measure to give drivers some relief.
