AUSTIN (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - The polls are open for Election Day across Texas, as voters pick a new governor and select from among leading candidates for other statewide offices.
Heavy rains greeted voters Tuesday in Lubbock and other parts of West Texas. Rain also fell in North Texas and elsewhere.
Meanwhile, some voters in Dallas were confused when they arrived at Fire Station 37 to find a boarded up building. That is because there is a new Fire Station 37 one block away. Somehow, the new address was not received by everybody, including elections staff members. "I saw a paramedic truck and followed, and that's how I found my polling station," said frustrated voter Dan Fergusson. He said that other people just left.
And in Tarrant County, at least two polling places were not prepared for voters. Daggett Elementary School and Western Hills Baptist Church did not have ballots for voters, or had ballots for elections in Benbrook.
Voters have until 7:00 p.m. to cast ballots as Republican Greg Abbott and Democrat Wendy Davis face off in the gubernatorial race.
Davis serves in the Texas Senate representing the Fort Worth area. She became a national sensation last year with a Senate filibuster that blocked new abortion restrictions temporarily.
Abbott leaves his post as Texas attorney general. He campaigned on promoting economic growth and defiance toward Washington that Rick Perry made his legacy during a record 14 years as Texas governor.
