NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Police say a pizza deliveryman took away a would-be robber's gun and shot him during an attempted holdup in Connecticut.

Officer David Hartman says 23-year-old Shawn Pauls was arrested Wednesday morning at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he's currently in recovery for what's been described as a minor injury.

The 43-year-old deliveryman, who wasn't identified, told police that Pauls tried to rob him while he was making a delivery at a home.

Hartman says the deliveryman was able to wrestle the gun away from Pauls and fired several shots in his direction.

Pauls was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny and first-degree threatening. The deliveryman won't be charged.

It's unclear if Pauls has an attorney who could comment.
