DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas Police are investigating near White Rock Lake after someone took it upon themselves to chop down several limbs of trees on city-owned park property.
Residents along Lake Highlands Drive noticed a crew hacking away at the trees that border the lake on Tuesday morning.
"That's one of the attractive things about this whole area is that we've got real mature nice trees," said Nancy Bowen. "I've joked about it myself. Boy would I have a great view."
Dallas Police said a park employee saw a landscaping crew cutting down parts of the tree. When they asked why it was happening, police said the crew told the witness a homeowner across the street wanted to improve their view.
"I would have done that 50 years ago," said Dee Landfair, who owns the home across from the tree that were chopped.
Landfair, who is currently selling her home, said she did not order the trimming. Police visited her home and interviewed her granddaughter. No charges have been filed.
Landfair's realtor did not want to comment on camera but said over the phone she did not order the illegal trimming either.
"I wish it would rest. There's more in this world to worry about than two limbs off two trees over there," said Landfair.
A Dallas Police detective is now investigating. DPD said if someone is found responsible, they could face felony criminal mischief depending on the extent of the damage.
"They need to be caught because It's all of our park. It's all of our view," said Bowen. "Don't be so selfish and think about other people besides yourself."
The council member for the area, Mark Clayton, issued a statement on Wednesday night urging residents to shy away from online rumors and allow police to investigate.
