PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - Neighbors in Plano are teaming up after a string of home burglaries. Five homes in the Steeplechase neighborhood, near Parker Road and the Dallas North Tollway, have been hit in the past two weeks by what police are calling a "professional burglar."

Plano investigators said that they believe this burglar is responsible for as many as 20 home burglaries across the city.

"I think we are all a little freaked out," said Drew Kerris to room full of his neighbors.

On Sunday, Kerris asked his neighbors and the Plano Police Department to attend a meeting so that they could come up with a plan. More than 50 neighbors showed up, as well as several police officers.

Kerris' home was the first in the neighborhood to be burglarized. It appears as though the thief jumped over a backyard fence, went through a backdoor, searched his home and stole thousands of dollars worth of his wife's jewelry. This all took place as the Kerris family was just down the street eating dinner.

Expensive jewelry has been this burglar's target, according to police. He has often left electronics and other valuables behind.

Officer David Tilley said that this burglar will be hard to catch. He said that the individual is very "skilled" and is not scared off by home security alarms.

Tilley told the room full of neighbors that the key is being vigilant and to not hesitating to report any suspicious people or vehicles to police.

Kerris said that he is not convinced this burglar will not try again in the neighborhood but, after Sunday's meeting, he said that he feels his neighborhood is better prepared. "I think if he keeps coming back here, he's going to get caught," Kerris said.
