Plano Considering Tax Cut

PLANO (CBS11) - It's been 15 years since Plano residents had their taxes lowered.

The city manager has proposed a $527 million budget that includes a tax decrease.

Plano's police chief is asking for 26 more officers and civilian employees to keep up with the city's explosive growth.

The budget would fund only 22 new officers.

The proposed budget comes at the expense of not only the police department's wish list but also the parks department's request for more frequent mowing and the libraries desire for more books.

"The decision to council members is do you want that upgrade and if you do that, there is a cost to it and it has a tax rate cost," said City Manager Bruce Glasscock.

Glasscock says skyrocketing home appraisals are the reason citizens need a tax break.

The city council will vote on the budget in September.
