60-year-old pilot dies in small plane crash in Van Zandt County

NTSB, FAA investigating plane crash in Van Zandt County

EDGEWOOD - The crash of a single-engine plane Tuesday evening in Van Zandt County left the pilot dead.

According to the NTSB, a Cirrus SR22 went down at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday on Private Road 7005 in Edgewood. The crash happened at Tailwind Airpark, which contains homes with aircraft hangars that share a small runway. This airpark has several hangars that are also homes.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the plane came to rest, striking a home, causing minor damage. Video from the scene shows the plane wreckage next to a home, which a Texas DPS spokesperson said was empty at the time.

DPS identified the sole occupant and pilot as 60-year-old Roger D. Turner of Edgewood. he was taken to a hospital and was later pronounced deceased. 

Representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. Texas State Troopers are providing security at the crash site.
