DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - After years of wrangling, the Dallas Parks and Recreation Board has approved a smoking ban on city parkland - with a couple of exceptions.

According to the Park Board's proposal, people would still be able to light up on Dallas' municipal golf courses and shooting ranges.

Also, guests of private parties held at city facilities like the Arboretum would be able to smoke.

But, all other parks and parkland would be under the smoking ban - including Fair Park.  Violating the smoking ban would carry a $200 fine.

The Park and Rec Board's vote sends the proposed smoking ban to the Dallas City Council, which will make the final decision.
