Palo Pinto County Sheriff Indicted For Alleged Misuse Of Tape Recorder

PALO PINTO (CBSDFW.COM) - Palo Pinto County Sheriff Ira Mercer was indicted for two counts of unlawful interception of oral communication, according to the Attorney General's office.

Mercer is accused of using a tape recorder to spy on his former girlfriend last year.

A sheriff since 2004, Mercer turned himself into authorities.

Despite his felony indictment,  Mercer isn't disqualified for serving out his term as sheriff until December 2016.
