Overnight Storms Knock Out Power For Thousands Across North Texas

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The storms that rumbled across North Texas early Monday morning are being blamed for over 17,000 power outages.

As the fall storms approached, wind gusts were reported to be close to 60 mph in some areas of Addison - even gusting up to 80 mph near Sanger, Krum and Ponder. One report of a 'rotation' and winds of 85 mph were reported near Justin.

Oncor, the Texas-based electricity provider, reported the following number of outages across the North Texas area (by county):

Dallas: 8,100
Tarrant: 4,600
Denton: 1,900
Kaufman: 1,500
Collin: 950
Ellis: 500

With Oncor trying to restore electricity to the thousands of homes and businesses this morning, Denton Police were reporting downed power lines along Highway 380.

Police say the eastbound lanes of 380 - between Hinkle and Malone - were closed due to the hazard. The westbound lanes will remain open but police suggest you still avoid the area.

Forecasters issued a wind advisory for Fort Worth and neighboring areas through early Monday night. The National Weather Service reports sunny skies should return to North Texas by Tuesday
