DALLAS (AP) — The arrival of spring may be only a month away, but that's not preventing Old Man Winter from extending his icy grip across much of Texas.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for North Texas, and weather advisories are in place for the Panhandle, Central Texas and elsewhere.

Rain began falling Sunday in North Texas with temperatures expected to plummet into the 20s by nightfall.

Snow is expected to start falling Sunday in parts of West Texas. Forecasts call for a couple inches of snow come Monday.

NWS forecasts call for rain in Central Texas to turn Monday to freezing rain. The Houston area is expected to see rain through Wednesday.

The Dallas Morning News reports American Airlines has canceled more than 960 Monday fights at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
