ADDISON (CBSDFW.COM) - Addison police officer Travis Nelson has seen most of the city in his four years with the department.

This weekend, he will get a view few others do.

"Pretty cool to see the city from above," he said.

Nelson is a part-time skydiving instructor and received an invite last year to participate in the Kaboom Town air show.

This year, he will once again be jumping from a Vietnam-era transport plane.

"Usually I'm jumping out of a smaller plane," he said. "This was more crowded, loud, dirty, but a lot more fun."

Nelson will do the skydive in uniform and immediately return to work protecting the city.

A retired Navy officer, he takes pride in celebrating Independence Day, making each one memorable.

"It's a whirl of emotion," he said.

You can catch him at the Kaboom Town air show scheduled for this Sunday at 7:15 p.m.
