Off-Duty Houston Officer Charged In Deadly DWI

RICHMOND, Texas (AP) — An off-duty Houston police officer has been arrested over what investigators say was an alcohol-related traffic accident that left another driver dead.
Officer James Combs was being held Tuesday on an intoxication manslaughter count in the death of 36-year-old Brian Manring.
Online Fort Bend County jail records don't list an attorney to speak for the 33-year-old Combs, whose bond was $100,000.
The Sheriff's Office says Combs was driving an SUV in the Richmond area early last Friday morning and veered into oncoming traffic, striking a car driven by Manring. The victim later died of his injuries.
Investigators say test results, released Tuesday, indicate Combs had a blood-alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit for driving.
Houston police relieved Combs of duty, pending the outcome of the investigation.
