OAK LAWN (CBSDFW.COM) — Residents are planning to "march for a safer Gayborhood" Sunday in response to a recent string of attacks in the Oak Lawn area.

The "Light Up Oak Lawn" march is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. at the Oak Lawn Library at 4100 Cedar Springs Road, according to a press release. There will be a rally before the march, beginning at 7 p.m.

Event organizers are calling for street lights to be added, local businesses to invest in security cameras and greater efforts to preserve security from police, businesses and community members, the release says.

A petition for the cause has also been created online.
