DALLAS (AP) - A North Texas man has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for defrauding the IRS of more than $1 million by submitting false income tax returns.

Thirty-two-year-old Michael Lloyd Moody of North Richland Hills was sentenced Wednesday in a Dallas federal courtroom.

Moody pleaded guilty in December 2013 to two counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation and presentation of false and fraudulent individual income tax returns. He originally had been indicted in March 2013 on 16 federal counts.

According to the U.S. attorney's office, Moody admitted to using false or inflated deductions and credits to claim fraudulent refunds from the federal agency. In one instance, he claimed a Schedule C business loss of about $37,000 when he didn't actually own a Schedule C business.
