FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) -- Radio Shack announced that Nick Cannon will play "an active role in the development of RadioShack-exclusive products" as well as help the company to transform the retailer into a "must-visit electronics destination."

Cannon was named the company's Chief Creative Officer on Wednesday.

"Nick Cannon is a lifelong fan of RadioShack and credits the retailer with fostering his creative spirit and interest in electronics," the Fort Worth based company said in a release.

According to Radio Shack, Cannon will maintain an office at the company's headquarters in Fort Worth.

"RadioShack and I are going to create a lot of cool things together in the coming months, and I can't wait to tell you all about it," Cannon said in the release.

In July 2015, General Wireless Operations Inc., announced that it had closed a $26.2 million purchase of the RadioShack brand, giving the company the ability to operate the retailer under the RadioShack brand name.
