Rangers assistant general manager Mike Daly said Thursday that Cashner had a setback when trying to ramp up his throwing again.
105.3 The Fan's Jared Sandler says Cashner will consult with team physician Dr. Keith Meister on his next steps.
If Cashner injury is longterm and the Rangers want an external option to add to the mix, Colby Lewis is still available.

Cashner had resumed throwing after an MRI and exam last week by Meister showed nothing significant in the biceps. The right-hander then had a couple of days of light throwing without issues, but the biceps started bothering him again when the intensity increased.
Cashner, a Texas native who was a first-round draft pick out of TCU in 2008, was 5-11 with a 5.25 ERA in 28 games last season combined with San Diego and Miami.
