DALLAS(CBSDFW.COM) - A non-profit group has gone through and graded public schools throughout North Texas.

"Children At Risk", based in Houston, unveiled its list of the best area schools Monday.

The rankings are based on STAAR math and reading test scores, graduation rates and how many students took the SAT and ACT along with those scores.

"When you come from a high poverty school and one that's challenged by poverty, we know what that entails to get kids over the bar, to get kids to perform at high levels so everyone here is recognized for the outcome," says Dallas Schools Superintendent Mike Miles.

According to "Children At Risk" the School of Science and Engineering at Dallas ISD is the top public high school in North Texas.  Fowler Middle School in Frisco ISD is the to Middle School.  Carroll Elementary in Carroll ISD is ranked first among area elementary schools.
