Mystery Bug Making Dogs Sick At Azle Animal Shelter

AZLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Something is making dogs sick at the Azle Animal Shelter. As a result, the shelter says operations there are "curtailed until further notice."
Animals are sneezing and coughing and those symptoms are spreading despite "extraordinary efforts of the shelter staff over the past few days to clean and disinfect the shelter," according to a news release from Azle Police Chief Rick Pippins.
The sick animals are quarantined and being cared for by a vet.
The shelter says animals first exposed have been on antibiotics and appear to be doing better.
"We are optimistic they will all recover," Chief Pippins says.
Meantime the Azle Animal Shelter is closed for adoptions until further notice, no voluntary surrenders of pets are being accepted and the public are not allowed to visit the shelter to avoid further spread of the disease.
Animal control services in the city will continue uninterrupted.
