ROCKWALL (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Rockwall have confirmed a mother left her infant child at a local fire station over the weekend.
Officials say the 2-month-old baby was left at the Rockwall Fire Station #4, in the 2900 block of South Goliad. The infant was immediately taken to a local hospital, examined and determined to be in healthy condition.
A short time after leaving the child, the mother returned to the fire station and told workers there she had been the victim of domestic violence in another city and left her child at the "Safe Baby" location because she "didn't know what else to do."
Child Protective Services (CPS) was contacted and is now working with the mother to find a safe and secure place for the infant.
The Texas Safe Haven Law, also known as the Baby Moses law, gives parents who are unable to care for their child a safe and legal choice to leave their infant with an employee at a designated safe place.
