FORT WORTH (CBS11) - A joyous occasion was marked with a somber tone in Fort Worth's Sundance Square Monday afternoon as crews raised the iconic Christmas tree.

As ordered by Texas Governor Greg Abbott a minute of silence was observed as the clock struck noon to honor the victims of Friday's attack in Paris.

Tony Sardone, one of the crew members setting up the holiday tree removed his hard hat at noon and bowed his head along with his crew.

He said, "Anything that we could do to help those people out. I'm sure they'll appreciate it. Even a moment of silence. It's a terrible thing that happened."

About the solemn gesture.

Outside of the Governor's Mansion in Austin, Abbott he led staffers and others as they all lowered their heads.

It was a similar scene of solidarity throughout different parts of the country on Monday.

A French flag still flies atop the Space Needle in Seattle. In New York all those inside the chambers of the New York Stock Exchange also paused for a moment of silence.

Meanwhile back in Fort Worth the crew hoisting the tree into place said the gesture unites them with the people of France even if they are more than an ocean away.

Tony Sardone added, "you've got to learn how to adjust your life. You can be happy one day and sad the next," about the world we all live in with the threat of terrorism.
