MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) -  The City of Mesquite celebrated its recognition as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for the 25th consecutive year. Mesquite has the 10th longest tenure in the program of any city in Texas.

The program included the planting of a Burr Oak tree at Hanby Elementary School Friday.

The City of Mesquite says it has planted more than 31,000 trees throughout the community since the inception of its Urban Forestry Program in 1988.
