MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) - For the first time in its history, the City of Mesquite has painted its ball fields pink to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All sports fields managed by the City's Parks and Recreation Department have had the athletics lines painted pink and will remain pink for the month of October.

In addition, most fields will feature a 4-foot tall pink ribbon in a high visibility area.

Manager of Park Services Travis Sales said, "We have already had a great response from the public with our park users taking selfies with our pink efforts. If this brings only one smile to a cancer survivor visiting our facilities, so they see they are not alone in their battle and we are supporting them, then this has accomplished our goal."

Sales shared that with thousands of children and parents utilizing Mesquite facilities on a weekly basis, staff felt this was a great opportunity to support the cause.

No additional costs went into the effort as pink paint is the same expense as the traditional white painted typically used on the fields.
