Mesquite ISD middle school remains closed after transformer fire
MESQUITE (CBSNewsTexas.com) - Vanston Middle School in Mesquite remains closed Thursday as leaders try to sort out electrical issues.
Students and staff were quickly evacuated from the campus Tuesday afternoon after a transformer fire. No one was hurt.
Thursday morning, Mesquite ISD took to X to share its latest update, saying facilities personnel still have more testing to do before students and staff can return to the school building.
Although our facilities personnel worked tirelessly throughout the day & this evening to replace wiring & restore connections to electrical systems at Vanston, they have not yet completed the extensive testing that must occur before students & staff can reoccupy the building. ⬇️

On Wednesday, the ISD said: "There is no damage to the building structure; however, significant rewiring must be completed to ensure we can safely reoccupy the campus. At this time, the campus does not have power."
It continued to say it's coordinating with Oncor to determine when the electricity will be restored.
Due to electrical damage sustained as a result of today’s transformer fire, Vanston Middle School will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 23.
