DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Usually an ambulance ride means something is wrong, but on this Thanksgiving, an ambulance ride brought a family together for the holidays.

MedStar paramedics brought Coy Waits to his sister Billie Dobbins' home Thursday.

"This is my big brother and Coy has always taken care of us." Said Billie.

This holiday visit wouldn't have happened without the assistance of MedStar.

"Due to the high impact of the care that he needs, the family was not equipped to handle his care," explained MedStar paramedic Chris Frank.

Paramedics transported Mr. Waits from his nursing home so he could spend thanksgiving with the family free of charge.

"His [favorites] are  chitlings and the hogmaws. He loves dressing," beamed sister Billie. This generosity is not lost on the family.

"I thank the paramedics, I know they have families and they took their time to bring my family member home," said an appreciative Billie.

"It's touch of the heart, we appreciate when we can give back. This is a way to let everyone know that we are people too," explained paramedic Chris Frank.

Mr. Waits couldn't speak but he smiled to show his contentment all during his visit. That's perhaps the best gift for the holidays.
