Mansfield Legacy High School teacher fired after arrest for child porn, abuse charges
A Mansfield ISD teacher was fired this week following his arrest on charges of child pornography, sexual assault of a child and improper relationship with a student.
Jared Young, 33, was a science teacher at Legacy High School and coached the freshman football and basketball teams. This was his first year teaching in Mansfield ISD, though he previously worked as a special education aide during the 2021–2022 school year.
District says no Mansfield students involved
In a letter sent to parents, Legacy High School Principal Stephanie Bonneau emphasized that the allegations against Young do not involve any Mansfield ISD students.
"The safety and well-being of our students is always a top priority, and we know this news is concerning. We value your trust, and such behavior will not be tolerated in Mansfield ISD," Bonneau wrote.
The district said it will contact families of students who were in Young's classroom during his time as a special education aide, out of an abundance of caution.
Students say they feel unsafe
Still, students at Legacy High School say the news has left them feeling unsettled.
"I don't want to come to school no more… It's like uncomfortable knowing somebody like 40, 30, like just looking and trying to smile, trying to talk to me, and I'm 17, still in high school," one student said.
Victim reportedly from Alvarado
The district confirmed that the victim in this case is from Alvarado and said local police are handling the investigation.
"As educators entrusted with the safety and well-being of the students in our care each day, nothing is more upsetting than learning of allegations like those facing Mr. Young," the district said. "We are thankful these charges do not involve our students. Nevertheless, this inexcusable behavior will not be tolerated in Mansfield ISD, and we have already begun the process to terminate Mr. Young's employment with us."
Police ask for information
Bonneau asked that anyone with information related to the criminal cases involving Young contact police in Alvarado or Mansfield.
